The most noticeable feature on Tetsuya is his pink spiky hair. For the most part he isn't one to worry about appearances. Outside of school he prefers to wear a simple plain white shirt and jeans coupled with his wolf tooth necklace given to him by his father. His clothes are usually neat and clean. When it gets colder out he opts to wear his favorite black hoodie.

Growing up in a tribe Tetsuya was taught from a young age to respect and admire nature. He is very proud of his Ainu heritage and is willing to help any living being. This is what ultimately leads to his laid back and carefree nature. Tetsuya's tribe followed a pack mindset, that is they stick together and help each other. They protect the meek and help the weak. This is a big basis of Tetsuya's personality he is a kind individual who tries to help those who need it.
Tetsuya is persistent and strong willed, taking on any challenge given to him. He can become more serious when the time comes for it. Usually when he feels threatened. The Ainu treat warriors in high regard, and as such they train everyone in the art of combat and hunting. He takes pride in his combat abilities, but doesn't try to show them off and will shy away from confrontation if it's possible. Tetsuya can seem kind of distant to most people, because he has had very small interactions with people. Even during the few years he was in the close net tribe, he much prefered the company of nature than people. This is especially true about strangers. But once you get to know him you can see that he is an all around nice guy. Once you get to know him he is a pretty nice guy.
Because of his few social interactions he can seem a bit blunt, preferring to tell it how it is than sugar coating it. This is more from a lack of interaction than him being rude. His persistence can lead to stubbornness very quickly for him. He will try a million different ways to solve a problem before giving up, even if the process of solving the problem destroys him in the process.
History
Tetsuya is an Ainu, a group of indigenous people, from Hokkaidō, Japan. Many Ainu left Hokkaidō and tried to assimilate into modern day culture, moving into the other cities of Japan or Russia. They hide their heritage and try to seem as Japanese or Russian as possible, so as not to be discriminated against. However there was group who refused to give up their culture and stood their ground at their homeland. They continued the culture of their ancestor refusing to use modern technology. They hunted for food, lived in houses that they made, and believed that gods or their incarnations are found in every phenomenon and object, including natural phenomena from the sun, moon, thunder, wind, water and fire, to animals, plants. they lived off of the land and treated nature as gods. This was the world that Tetsuya grew up in.
The tribe believed themselves to be descendants of the Retaruseta Kamuy (the white-wolf god) and a goddess. Wolves are revered as gods in the tribe. Wolves were allowed to be hunted but, any who wasted the meat or pelt of a dead wolf were punished by the tribe.
Only one of his parents is of Ainu descent: his father.HIs mother is from Tokyo. She was a city girl through and through. She had aspirations to become a journalist. She wanted to travel the world and see what it had to offer her. But, a trip to Hokkaido changed her life. She had heard rumors of a group of people living outside of Hokkaido. from the stories that she heard, she mistaked the Ainu tribe as a group of occultist and was immediately intrigued by the thought of them. During her time interviewing the tribe she met Tetsuya's father Michi. He told her all about their customs and beliefs; he was kind to the outsider. the rest of the tribe however wanted nothing to do with the outside world, and wanted the stranger to leave. Michi, however, allowed for her to stay. She stayed with the tribe for a week, and in that week she fell in love with the Ainu man. She decided to scrap the article, but continued to visit the tribe. After a year she decided to stay and live with the tribe.
Tetsuya's history starts a little after this. As an Ainu he was taught to hunt, fish and fight at a young age. Being of the ruling clan, Tetsuya had to work harder than the others; being a Horokeu made him an alpha and as such he had to be better than the rest of the children. This lead to him becoming somewhat of a loner. The other children thought that he was different from them because of his different training, so they stayed away from him. Tetsuya later found his company in the form of nature: plants, animals, insects. They were all friends to him.
Tetsuya's life was pretty much all hunting and training until he turned the age of 11. The Iomante, or the bear festival, is one of the most important ceremonies in Ainu culture. The tribe finds and takes a bear cub and raise it as one of their own. The feed the bear well and treat it as a god. After the bear is two years of age, the males take shots at the bear with bows and arrows. Even at two years of age, bears are quite large and take numerous shots to be taken down. This bear in particular was large and fiercer than ones in the past. Instead of taking the shots like previous bears it went on a rampage attacking anyone in its path. Tetsuya just happened to be in its path. He was hit by a stray paw across the arm leaving a deep laceration. The bear would have continued if the men of the tribe wouldn't have finished it off. The tribe saw this as a punishment from the gods. Tetsuya must have done something to anger them. He was a pariah to the tribe and none gave him sympathy. His mother was furious. she couldn't believe that Michi allow not only their sone becoming an outcast to the tribe but also get attacked by a bear. She grabbed her son and left the tribe and went back to modern civilization. It would be hard for her and Tetsuya to assimilate, but it was better than her son being put in danger again.
The two moved in with Aoi's parents in Kanehira City. they were delighted to see their daughter and grandson. The next 7 years would be tough for tetsuya; he had very little schooling and social interactions. However through perseverance, help from his maternal family and teachers, and years of cram school, Tetsuya was able to get into high school. His grades aren't the best, but he's passing. His social life was another story. Tetsuya was never really outspoken. If it wasn't for his heritage, past life, and tendency to talk to plants and animals like they're people, he would have never been noticed. But he was, and not in a good light. He was called a freak and other derogatory words. But Tetsuya didn't care, well more like he didn't notice. He was just thought people were laughing for some other reason. Life in the modern world is hard for Tetsuya, but its no different from life with the Ainu. As long as he has some form of nature around him he'll be alright.
