Basics
Full Name: Kagami Ayasaki
Nickname: Kagamin
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Grade/Career: 3rd year high school student, works late nights on certain days of the week at a host club called "Swan Song"
Ethnicity: Japanese (both parents are of Japanese descent)
Family:
- (Deceased) Ayumu Ayasaki (father),
- Yukiho Ayasaki (alive), no siblings
Face Claim: Iri Flina from Sword Girls
Appearance
Kagami reached puberty at a younger age than usual, and her looks matured more quickly than other girls of her age, however she possesses somewhat of a tomboyish and masculine beauty that allows her to easily pose as a pretty man if she tapes down her chest with something like a sarashi. To note, she abuses this liberally to escape from the sufferings she has at home. Also, her hair is naturally black, but often she either dyes it silver or bleaches it regularly. The eyepatch she wears over her left eye is the result of a horrible 'accident' (according to her mother) which disfigured the entire section of her face. Fortunately it has not taken away from any potential attractiveness she might show off to older folks. Her physique is quite lean, as she often tries to stay away from home as long as possible, such as going to the gym, partaking in night life part-time jobs, etc. Her fashion sense is heavily Westernized, and steers abnormally away from traditional Japanese fashion trends. It seems Kagami is working hard to re-invent herself and run away from her old self. Her height is taller than that of the average Japanese teenage girl, which seems to score her extra points among other girls. She also has a slightly lower voice than average girls too, which can give off the impression that she is really a huge tomboy.
Personality
Likes: Staying away from home, the darkness, talking to people who aren't her mother, her late father
Dislikes: Her mother
Hobbies: Working out, letting out stress at the club where she works (of course, lying about her age AND gender)
Goals: To make a name for herself so she can ditch her mother and live in more relative safety, to basically estrange herself from her.
Kagami is the kind of person who seems like a stereotypical "cool guy," but actually she is putting up a facade. Deep down inside she is hurting, because of the abuse that her mother dishes out on her regularly as a result of alcoholism since Kagami's father passed away of illness. That's why she runs away from it by staying away from home basically at all times, except during times she can't afford to stay up. She's approachable enough and easy to talk to, and doesn't like to say hurtful things towards others, but if she sees someone who she would call a friend being mistreated, Kagami will change quite entirely, and become more aggressive to help protect her friends, in the hopes that she wouldn't have to see anybody suffer the same way she had been suffering this whole time.
Despite her tumultuous home life, she tries to be optimistic and positive, hoping that one day what she's done will pay off and she can fix her problem for good. A part of her secretly wishes her mother would 'disappear' as those rumours and cases of missing persons would attest, this would result in quite harsh criticism of course, but only Kagami truly knows the horrors of alcohol abuse from her mother. And of course Kagami has to lie about a lot of things in order to keep up appearance, such as saying that her eyepatch is cosmetic. She'd get very defensive if you tried to remove the eyepatch, since it's hiding horrendous scars and wounds. So far, she's only shown the wounds to the school nurse(s) in order to get approval to keep wearing it at school.
Kagami often tries to shoulder and burden her own issues, as she believes that no one could truly help her short of getting her mother arrested or put away so that Kagami can make a living on her own. But then she had already delved down a dark path, which started the moment she got accepted at the host club, which benefitted her in some ways but detrimented her in others. Overall she became happier, being able to talk to different people and be able to help comfort them as they drowned away their sorrows in lighter drinks unlike the ones her mother had. In an almost contradictory way, Kagami had found herself enjoying this, and it soon would affect her socialization skills with others of her own age. Though friendly and kind, she might be more receptive to 'adult' or 'serious' ideas and topics instead of the fun frivolity of teenagers.
History
Kagami is the daughter of Ayumu and Yukiho Ayasaki, the pair were working parents. The father, Ayumu, was very kind and loving, and was a very good and smart teacher at a local school in Shibuya, where they first lived (Yukiho was a writer for a newspaper). However there was a better job opportunity for him to teach at Kanehira University, since during that time, there were very few teachers interested in teaching foreign subjects, which Ayumu was actually an expert at. So they relocated to Kanehira and lived in relative peace, until Ayumu developed prostate cancer. Since it typically had no clear symptoms in the early stages, Ayumu was never able to learn about it until it was too late and he was already experiencing pains in the pelvis and the other areas down there. Despite the best attempts by everybody to try and do something about it, Ayumu couldn't be saved and he passed away.
That's when it all came tumbling down. Yukiho had been struck by a bout of depression (incidentally, Kagami was able to handle the death much better despite only being 10 at the time) and began to turn to the bottle to drown away her sorrows. Her new job in Kanehira involved paperwork and being a secretary, which while not very stressful typically speaking, she had always been ranting about how people in her workplace were idiots, which fueled this desire for alcohol and getting wasted. Kagami's mother would usually manage to return home drunk and rather violent, using Kagami as a source of release usually by attacking her or by sexually violating her. One particularly terrible night when Yukiho ended up getting fired from her job as a result of her depression, she had come back home crying, already with a smashed bottle of alcohol that she got from a nearby conbini store, and in a fit of rage, the only words Kagami could hear from her mother were "I'LL KILL US ALL SO WE CAN ALL BE TOGETHER AS A FAMILY!" and then the mother attempted to stab Kagami repeatedly, the child defended herself but her left eye ended up getting gouged by glass shards from the bottle, leading to severe scarring and disfiguration of the area. Kagami believes that she is now blind in that eye and realized that if Yukiho had not sobered up when she did (upon seeing Kagami's left eye bleeding out as she's passed out on the floor) she might probably have been dead already.
After recovering from the attack, Kagami told her mother that she would try to stay away from her because she might be afraid that this incident would happen again. Yukiho said nothing, even if this would be a direct way of saying "I don't want to see you anymore," she could only blame herself, she had handled her late husband's death horribly and because of it she had destroyed her daughter's left eye. Yukiho silently agreed and it was then that Kagami began to work harder, in school and out of it. Exploring opportunities for late-night work as she grew older, she most recently found small-scale night-life entertainment establishments. There was a quaint host club called 'Swan Song,' not huge like the ones you'd see in the bigger red light districts but fancy enough that it seemed to be a popular hang out spot for older women. Though host clubs usually accepted only men to work there, Kagami decided to dress up for the part and apply for a job as a host there at the club.
She lied about her age, saying she was 21 but actually being only 18. They believed her, but discovered that she was actually a girl. They had been tempted to reject Kagami because of this, but the owner of the Swan Song host club said it would be okay, and that she would try some experimental plan to boost activity and profits. Kagami thanked her new boss and said she wouldn't regret it. Thus Kagami became a host here; and became very popular amongst the locals and rose in demand, such that the boss had to actually limit the days in which Kagami was available, in order to give her more rest. It was also during this time that the missing persons reports were at their worst. She would learn a lot about these reports by being at the host club, hearing the sad tales of women who had lost their friends and kids to mysterious causes.
Scared but undeterred, Kagami has recently been thinking about trying to investigate this. After all, what has she got to lose?
