Personality
Likes: Anything athletic, sweets, fighting, metalworks, axes, dancing, singing, drawing, learning new things, participating in group activities, and helping out
Dislikes: Being called a child, tv, celery, being unable to move around, getting sick, sleeping when it’s not pitch dark outside, and being underestimated
Hobbies: Athletics, singing, dancing, drawing, and collecting axes
Goals: Collect a hundred axes, help people out, and living life to the fullest
Sumi is more of a cheerful, helpful, childlike type than a subtle flower. She is heavily involved with athletics like sports, fighting, and weight lifting. This makes her a very well rounded person physically. She is loud and always tries to lift everyone’s spirits. However, she is understanding and is extremely empathetic. Using her understanding of people’s emotions and possible mental states, as well as her ability to put herself in similar situations using her imagination, she is able to put herself in another person’s shoes. Her broad imagination is also what makes her so idealistic. She is a quick thinker and is able to process things faster than some, though she can misunderstand what is being said at times if very fatigued, distracted, or when it involves math and numbers. Either way, she is secretly highly troubled, depressed, and, at times, suicidal. Her depression nearly took control of her life at one point, but she managed to pull through and got a little better, but it’s still there. She hides her depression from others, though sometimes it shows by accident. It often grabs her mind when she is alone, if she thinks that she caused someone to have negative emotions, or that an event was her fault. However, she has made a promise with herself to not die until she is not needed anymore. In other words, she doesn’t live her herself, but for others.
History
Abandoned as a baby, she was taken to the Infant Nursery where she lived at until the age of 3 before being transferred to an orphanage. Up until the age of 6, she was a normal little girl living in an orphanage, just a little more reserved than others. However, on her first day of school, she saw a lot of children with their parents. Although she managed to make friends, she was confused, wondering why she didn’t have any parents. Sure, she had always heard about how she had parents of her own, she had seen children with parents on tv or in books, but never in real life. The more she heard the children talk about their siblings and family, the more Sumi felt alone and unwanted. One day, at the age of 8, she confronted a very annoyed teen, who also lived in the orphanage, about it, and, out of stress and annoyance, the teen snapped, ‘Because they didn’t want you, alright?! Now leave me alone’. This caused Sumi to descend into depression, and, not wanting to risk getting snapped at again, didn’t tell anyone about what she thought of herself.
At age 10, her best friend, Yukimaki, and her were being bullied by a group of 6 kids in their grade in an empty classroom. One of the children, however, accidently pushed Sumi’s friend too hard, causing her to fall against the wall, snapping her neck in an unnatural angle and knocking her out cold. Sumi just stood there, crying silently, wide eyed at the dead body of her friend. Very few of the bullies ran out of the room in fear, the one who pushed her was crumpled on the ground, wailing, and the others were just frozen, shaking. At that moment, Sumi wanted to die, but the wailing of the boy at her feet brought her back to reality. When she looked at him, she realized something, she wasn’t mad at him, instead, she found herself trying to figure out how he felt about the situation. Fear, trauma, guilt, and many more emotions flooded into her mind as she tried to understand the boy’s situation. The other children ran out into the hall as soon as they heard the yelling of teachers, abandoning Sumi and the boy. When the teachers arrived to the classroom, they found Sumi and the boy. The only thing was, Sumi was hugging him, and he was trying to get away.
‘Get off me, I’m a killer’ ‘I don’t wanna hurt you’ he wailed, the teachers pried Sumi off the boy and took him away from Sumi, the two of them were sent to the police station so they could file a report. Sumi and the boy were sent to therapy, but Sumi never said a word. Sumi learned that the boy’s name was Isamu Ikiban, and a month later the two finally met in person for the first time since the incident. While the incident was ruled an accident to the rest of the students, the other bullies avoided Isamu. He was sitting alone at lunch with a teacher watching him when Sumi found him and sat next to him. Isamu tried to leave but Sumi stopped him.
‘You need a friend right?’ Sumi asked him, ‘I want to be that friend.’
Isamu looked at her, shocked, ‘But… I killed your friend…’
‘You didn’t pay attention to your surroundings, you pushed her, you hurt me in more ways than one, and you killed someone. But that isn’t what you wanted to do.’ Sumi looked at him, shocking him with the softness in her eyes, ‘You didn’t mean it, you were so upset when you realized what you did, I don’t know how but, I’m not angry. Plus… I’m lonelier than usual. Which means you’re lonely too right? I don’t know if I can completely forgive you but… I want to be here for you, avoiding you won’t fix anything, or make anything better.’ Sumi gestured him to sit down, ‘So lets start by getting to know each other.’
Isamu looked at her sadly and ran away, leaving Sumi alone.
It would take a year before Isamu agreed to be her friend, and the two got along surprisingly well.
That day, Sumi made a promise to herself.
That she wouldn’t die until no one needed her anymore.
While in middle school, Sumi, inspired by some samurai movies, decided she wanted to go into metalworks to make weapons. So at age 15, she went to the local metalworks shop and asked to become the owner’s apprentice. After being accepted, it took a while for her to get the hang of the work, but she eventually made her first real weapon, an axe, it wasn’t good, but it wasn’t bad either, it was decent enough to use. Ever since she has had an obsession with axes and she adores them.
Today, she is still traumatized by the events of her childhood, however, she and Isamu are now friends, even though he moved away three years ago, the two still stay in touch, much to the confusion to those who know the truth about the incident.
She also recently encountered and entered a rift by accident while testing out her newest made axe in the backyard of the metalworks shop. As she was walking around in the inverse she saw a child about to be attacked by a shadow, through her determination to save him, she discovered her persona abilities and the two of them were able to escape. Although fairly new to the rifts, she is excited about it because it allows her to help more people in more ways than one.
