“Where should I go?" -Alice. "That depends on where you want to end up."
- The Cheshire Cat Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll
Kanehira City (Prime World)
Location: Chiba Prefecture, Japan
Population: 250,000 people
Climate: Currently the winter season, so the temperature is generally cold. The summers usually are a bit more hot and the spring season usually gets warm.
Geography: Most of the Chiba Prefecture is residential to the northwest which is the closest to Tokyo. The industrial district has factories and a shipyard to the south which is close to the Tokyo Bay. The agricultural areas here are in the eastern part of the prefecture. There are single family homes for the rich or people that have lived here for a long time while the other homes are for the agricultural area.
Economy: The economy is fairly strong which most of its economic successes being the steel that the factories produce and also the petroleum, chemical, and machines that other industries produce. It also has a strong agricultural output as it has contributed to the production of corn and other vegetables.
Transportation: The prefecture is known to use railways for people to get by and it also has a monorail for use in traveling to other places. Since it is a city, most people drive cars or buses as a primary mode of transportation.
Schools:
Kanehira High School - The only known high school that every high school student goes to. It's a school that is extremely ordinary save for rumors that there may be missing students. It has a number of clubs that each student can participate in and the atmosphere is generally friendly.
Kanehira University - The only known university where college students go to. The university is known to have a variety of courses that are taught by well-known professors and there is usually teams that are known by the community to play games regularly. This university has pretty much the same clubs like Kanehira High.
Inverse Kanehira (Inverse World)
How To Get There: To get into the Inverse World, one must find a random rift and go inside. Someone who has a Persona or has the potential can get inside since normal civilians cannot by any means go into the rifts.
Population: 0 life forms since there is mostly Shadows and it is generally inhabitable for quite some time. Roughly 1000 Anti-Suppression Shadow Weapons
Climate: The typical climate seems to be really cold which it can be a lot colder during what is presumably the nighttime. It is mostly cloudy and occasionally, there might be rain. On occasion, there might be thunderstorms and sleet, but mostly there would be cloudy days where the moon is visible.
Geography: While it has the same layout like Kanehira City, the buildings in this world are torn down and the streets seem to be in disarray courtesy of the Shadows that lived there. A few buildings there seem to be intact, but everything is completely destroyed.
Transportation: Some of the cars there are old, but they can still function. There is also gas stations, so it is entirely possible to use a car to get anywhere. Bicycles can be used as well, but walking is preferable in most circumstances.
Technology: While finding a piece of tech is quite scarce, Earth's technology can actually be used here. Items such as watches, cellphones, laptops, and others can still function, but the wireless features are mostly disabled. There is no internet connection or cellular connection here. Time display will not work correctly as it could leap to several hours compared to the real world's time. You can also find an ASSW lab for spare parts or a good security system. Electricity has ceased to exist, although there might be working generators if you are lucky to find one.
History: The Inverse World originally ran parallel to the Prime World, with very few differences. The world's branched off after World War II, where the Prime World found technological advances in communications, leading to cell phones, the internet, and social media allowing for the trading of ideas and beliefs between people. Whereas the Inverse World found technological in robotics and artificial intelligence leading to the creation of personal household robots, and ai that perfectly mirrors human characteristics such as emotions.
This branching changed the timelines immensely, but they continued to run parallel with each other, each with its own cause and effects to each situation. Similar but different. But, that all changed in the Spring of 1999. A great earthquake, the very same that would plague the Prime world more than 15 years later, lead to mass destruction around the world. The earthquake, no different than the Prime great quake, wasn’t the cause of the destruction, but a catalyst of it. What followed the earthquake were rifts, or the doorway to hell as some called it. From these rifts appeared Shadows, grotesque monsters that feed on the life force of humans. This sparked the beginning of the Great war for survival. For if the shadows were allowed to advance and continue to feed, humanity would become extinct.
Immediately after the earthquake the shadows were few and small in stature, but even the government were powerless against them. Only few could fight them, the few with the power dubbed Persona. But even they could not protect entire cities. The government called for the creation of mechanized soldiers, appropriately named "Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapons". There were several lines, each more successful than the last, but it wasn't until 2004 that the ASSWs were able to be of any use in combat. The issue lay in the fact that they needed a personality--a soul--to call forth a Persona, something that the earlier models lacked. In a last-ditch effort, the scientists working on the robots attempted to create an artificial soul using a Plume of Dusk, which would become the machine's "heart".
And it was a success.
This model, dubbed the FW-001, was released to the world shortly afterward. It was followed up by two more lines: the FW less than six months later, and the GW, which was released in 2006. Each was an improvement on the other, providing more security to the handler.
Finally, things seemed to be turning around for the people of the Inverse. Their efforts at this point were mostly concentrated to destroying the Shadows; children with potential were trained to wield their Personas, and in dire times, sometimes teenagers would be deployed to the front lines to fight. Those who didn't have a Persona were expected to help with the war efforts in other ways--food production, mass weapons production, creating ASSWs, construction, and so on and so forth. They had an efficient system in place, but it could only protect them for so long.
But the shadows were infinite, no amount of fighting and armies could stand up to them. The fall of humanity was inevitable. And in 2013 the last of the Inverse world's strongholds finally fell. Among them was Kanehira City. The Shadows in the city outskirts finally broke into the inner city, and what followed was utter carnage.
With the fall of mankind, the Shadows were left to run the ruins of the planet. In major cities, the sun was blocked out by clouds and thick layers of smog produced by the factories that made their weapons and reinforcements and robots. Temperatures dropped, animals and plants died, but the Shadows remained. They continued to lurk in the rubble of old human settlements, crawling over deactivated ASSWs.
Other Information: Being a parallel world to Earth, the majority of the people on Earth had an Inverse counterpart These Inverse counterparts possessed the same name as the person on Earth, and the same overall appearance, though the smaller details could vary. Their personalities and histories also have the potential to differ greatly. However! Since everything in the Inverse came to a halt in 2013, they are all two years younger than their Earth counterparts. For example, if your character is 16, their Inverse self would have been 14 at their time of death (provided they died in 2013, which does not have to be the case).
Also, due to the nature of the threat the Inverse world faced, the place was, for the most part, highly militarized, as was hinted in the history. This change occurred over the span of several years in an attempt to increase the humans' chances of survival (clearly, it didn't work too well).
