Appearance
Kimiko is a cute young lady with short red hair and gentle brown eyes. Her skin is fair and her nails and hair are well maintained, she always does her best to look good. Her eyesight is extremely poor, only a few steps away from legal blindness, and as such she wears a pair of red framed glasses most of the time or putting in contact lenses for special occasions. Her wardrobe is robust and varied, but tends to be warmer as she's from much farther north than Kanehira on top of her cold nature. She typically wears designer clothes-- usually Trandy in support of her cousin-- and is fond of frilly dresses and elegant gowns. Pink being her favorite color, she usually has some pink article of clothing on.
Personality
Likes: Cousin Shion, being right, buying things, technological things, arguing, the color pink
Dislikes: Being wrong, being alone, not having the things in life money can't buy, being wrong
Hobbies: Sewing, dancing, trumpet playing
Goals: To come in to her own as a business manager par excellence, to graduate high school and to find out what it is she's lacking in her friendships
Kimiko is a very difficult woman to really nail down. On the surface she is petty and often rude to the people around her, yet she spends an inordinate amount of money on those people she likes to think of as friends regardless of social standing. She is supremely confident in herself in most things, dismissing the advice of others off handed if it doesn't match up with her own way, and yet feels that her lack of true companionship is perhaps something she is missing. She thrives in the mental arena of arguing, whether right or wrong, but can't quite seem to hold down a regular conversation.
Her biggest guiding factor is her place as the heiress to a massive technology firm, responsible for manufacturing hundreds of thousands of electronics every day for sales around the world. She is driven and filled with gleeful purpose when involved with any kind of business, and though she may seem like an idiot she's quite brilliant in the worlds of economics and advertising. Though acerbic and rude, Kimiko has a good heart at her core; she wants to see others succeed like her family has, and believes the best way to make that happen is to expand her business and hire more workers, simple and easy! In terms of interaction, she enjoys buying things for people and sharing her opinions; one on one conversations are the rare times one can glimpse the nice person deep inside, even through all the self assured haughtiness. She relishes the rare times where she can really click with somebody, bonding over stupid things like she used to do with her cousins. These few people are the ones she values most in life, the few friends whose input can make her rethink something she holds as beyond question. Sadly, these individuals are few and far between...
History
The Amanomiya family has always been successful, and Shion's great-uncle's line has been no exception. Kimiko's grandfather, Akihiro Amanomiya, founded the Nippon Ichi business in the dawning days of video games, their consoles meeting with massive financial success and making the family rich by the end of the decade. Under his guidance the company became known for making games geared towards a family friendly audience, ensuring profitability as the niche filler in the business. When he retired from the business it remained family owned, opening the door for Kimiko's father, Daisuke Amanomiya, to take over the company.
Under his leadership, the company has expanded a 'specialist' games branch to seek out and explore brave new frontiers in gaming. The company also bought several of its competitors, gaining a tight hold on the industry that lasts to this day.
Because of her family's success, Kimiko grew up in a life of luxury. Her mother stayed with her at home and raised her, home school being what her parents had decided on for their daughter. In these days it wasn't uncommon for her to visit her cousin Shion, spending a few days with her mother before Shion's parents became so divided. Kimiko, nor the rest of the family, knew about the things going on behind closed doors, but the time she spent with her cousin was always something she cherished. As things became worse, it was more common for Shion to visit than the other way around. The two lost contact not long after Shion's parents died, primarily from problems at home.
Oblivious to what was happening in his own home, Daisuke came home one evening a month after Kimiko's birthday to find that his wife had disappeared. Daisuke was a loyal man, but he was not passionate nor was he very expressive, and he knew she must have found a man to fill the voids that he could not. His tears were shed in private, and all he could tell his precious daughter was that he didn't know why she left or where she went. All he knew was how to do business, so that was what he did. A nanny cared for Kimiko during the morning, she went to a private school and she came home to learn about business from her father.
Unfortunately, as she spent time with him she learned some of his less admirable traits. An air of superiority to the common man, a conviction that her way was right, a freeness with his thought afforded the owner of a business, and a certain minor abrasiveness that he himself has. Five years of that buried much of her nicer traits, and Daisuke noticed.
Private school did little to help. Her name was well known, and her parentage attracted only the worst friends. People who only liked her for her money and her showering if gifts, bad influences on her personality. The worst part was that she knew they weren't her friends, and despite being surrounded by 'friends' she felt alone.
A chance reunion with her favorite cousin rekindled that spark of kindness inside her and made her happier than she'd been in years, and that gave Daisuke an idea. His aunt had cared for Shion, perhaps she'd be willing to take in his daughter for a while too. When he explained his plight to Sayuri, she agreed to let her move in.
A move to Kanehira was an exciting prospect! A city she'd never been to, filled with new places and people and some of her beloved family! When her father told her about the plan, she couldn't wait to call Shion and tell her the good news...
